Vol. 530 No. 5

Written Answers. - Criminal Prosecutions.

Paul Connaughton

Question:

149 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the cost to the Exchequer of the murder investigation of a person (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4309/01]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that it would take an inordinate amount of time and effort to trace all costs associated with this investigation. I can say, however, that the Roscommon/Galway east division expended almost 5,300 hours on this investigation and that, in addition, the services of the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation, the air support unit, water unit, dog unit and various sections of the Garda technical bureau were utilised.
