Vol. 530 No. 5

Written Answers. - Investment Aid Schemes.

John Perry

Question:

87 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development if his attention has been drawn to the fact that a person (details supplied) in County Sligo will stand to lose £9,750 in the recent announcement for the waste management or dairy hygiene schemes for young trained farmers under 35 years who commenced farming within five years of applying for the schemes; if he will review his situation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4284/01]

Under the EU Commission rules which apply to all aids for investment in agricultural holdings, provision is made to increase the percentage of grant aid by 15% in disadvantaged areas and by 5% in other areas for young qualified farmers under 35 years. However, the additional grant rates may be applied only to investments undertaken within five years of setting up in farming. In approving the schemes of investment aid for farm waste management and investment aid for the improvement in dairy hygiene standards the EU Commission applied the above rules. In the circumstances, it is not possible to review the position in relation to the person named in the question.
