Vol. 531 No. 1

Written Answers. - Cultural and Heritage Studies.

Austin Deasy

Question:

20 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands her views on whether the study of our culture and heritage should be pursued in a more proactive manner; if she will consult with the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment and the Department of Education and Science to see if a co-ordinated approach can be adopted; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [4943/01]

I agree in principle with the Deputy's emphasis on the need for a co-ordinated proactive approach to cultural and heritage studies. This is entirely consistent with both the practice in and the plans of my Department. Both in relation to the cultural institutions, for which my Department is responsible, and in relation to the built and natural heritage, study, education and learning are actively promoted. This is advanced in consultation and collaboration with, in particular, the Department of Education and Science and, on the crafts side, in conjunction with FÁS, the national training authority.

Question No. 21 answered with Question No. 17.
