Vol. 531 No. 1

Written Answers. - National Library.

Seamus Healy

Question:

36 Mr. Healy asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands if she will arrange for the return of the Clonmel Corporation Minute Book 1608-1649 from the National Library of Ireland to Clonmel Corporation; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [4795/01]

The Clonmel Corporation Minute Book 1608-1649 was donated to the National Library of Ireland in 1974 and is the property of the National Library. The book is in very poor condition and requires extensive conservation work to be carried out. The National Library is not in a position to have this work carried out in the short term. However, I understand that the Director of the National Library has already indicated to the town clerk that when the conservation work has been completed, the library would be pleased to present the corporation with a scanned copy, bound as a volume, which would be suitable for research purposes. In advance of that, the National Library has made available a microfilm copy to the corporation so that the contents will be accessible to interested parties.
