Vol. 531 No. 1

Written Answers. - Casement Aerodrome Safety Review.

Austin Currie

Question:

76 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Defence his views on a document giving details of areas in the vicinity of Casement Aerodrome, Baldonnel, which are subjected to development restrictions, in so far as the matters referred to are the responsibility of his Department (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5077/01]

In 1999 my Department engaged Sir Frederick Snow and Partners Limited to review its air safety policy at Casement Aerodrome, Baldonnel, having regard to current best practices. A revised policy statement based on its recommendations and having regard to security requirements for this military establishment was issued on 26 June 2000. This revised policy document was forwarded to South Dublin County Council for incorporation in its development plan. This incorporation is awaited.

I do not consider that it would be appropriate for me to comment on the very detailed and technical documentation referred to by the Deputy. However, my Department would be happy to discuss any aspect of the revised policy statement with interested parties.
