Question:

125 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the total number of local authority housing starts, excluding involvement by housing or voluntary agencies, initiated by the local authorities in County Kildare in each of the past three years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The number of local authority houses started or acquired in County Kildare in 1998 and 1999 is set out in the following table:

Figures in relation to the year 2000 are currently being compiled in my Department and will be included in the annual bulletin of housing statistics for 2000 which will be published shortly.

127 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the number of houses provided by the local authorities in County Kildare under the public housing programme in each year from 1998 to date; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5314/01]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 126 and 127 together.

The number of local authority houses completed or acquired in Kildare, including the urban district council areas, was 57 in 1982; 87 in 1983; 178 in 1984; 139 in 1985 and 86 in 1986. The comparable figures for 1998, 1999 and 2000 were 112, 125 and 86 respectively.
