Vol. 531 No. 4

Written Answers. - Rail Services.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

122 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the reasons for the delay in expanding the commuter service for the Maynooth suburban rail line; the intended date for the new service to operate; the additional carrying capacity on the line; the additional frequency of services; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [6170/01]

The expansion of services on the Maynooth line has been delayed by industrial relations difficulties. The matter is currently before the Labour Court.

Iarnród Éireann has informed me that the new service will be operated with a brand new fleet of 20 diesel railcars and will feature a 200% increase in capacity at peak hours and a half hourly off peak frequency.
