Vol. 531 No. 4

Written Answers. - Schools Refurbishment.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

212 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Education and Science if a decision has been made to rebuild or to refurbish Coolmine Community School, Dublin 15; and if he will indicate the cost of the two options. [6195/01]

In line with European procurement procedures, my Department is currently advertising in the Official Journal of the European Communities for the appointment of a full design team for the re-development of Coolmine Community School. Once the design team is appointed, the process of architectural planning will commence.

It is not possible at this stage to indicate as to whether the school will be rebuilt or refurbished – these options will be examined comprehensively as part of Stage 1 of architectural planning. However, the Deputy may rest assured that whichever option is chosen it will involve a substantial capital investment in the school.

The Deputy will appreciate that in the interest of securing competitive tender outcomes in due course, it is not the practice of my Department to publicly disclose the likely cost options at this juncture.
