Vol. 531 No. 4

Written Answers. - Medical Insurance.

Paul Bradford

Question:

42 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for Health and Children the steps he is taking to deal with service problems concerning medical indemnity. [5485/01]

I am not aware of any service delivery problems associated with the availability of medical indemnity cover for medical staff. My Department is continuing its work on implementing enterprise liability as the future basis for indemnifying clinical staff and hospitals. I have recently met the two medical defence organisations which operate in Ireland and I am satisfied that they will continue to offer indemnity cover to their Irish members until the new arrangements are put in place.
