Vol. 531 No. 4

Written Answers. - Crisis Pregnancies.

Brendan Howlin

Question:

44 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Health and Children the progress made to date by the Cabinet sub-committee dealing with the report on abortion of the All-Party Oireachtas Committee on the Constitution; if, in particular, proposals have yet been agreed for the major campaign to prevent unwanted pregnancies; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5959/01]

The Cabinet committee is currently considering the fifth progress report of the All-Party Oireachtas Committee on the Constitution, dealing with the issue of abortion. The report's proposals in relation to crisis pregnancies are among the matters being examined. While in principle the Government is committed to an approach along the lines set out in the report, considerable preparatory work will need to be undertaken before a plan such as that proposed can be put in place. It is not possible at this stage to indicate a timescale for the completion of the committee's work.
