Vol. 531 No. 4

Written Answers. - Health Services.

Ivor Callely

Question:

81 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Health and Children the legal and insurance issues that have been considered in the context of the use of St. Bricin's Hospital, Dublin 7, for civilian patients; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3976/01]

Responsibility for the provision of health services to persons living in Counties Dublin, Kildare and Wicklow now rests with the Eastern Regional Health Authority. The Authority established a working group to pursue the development of St. Bricin's Military Hospital as a step down medical facility into which certain categories of civilian patients could be transferred, in parallel to its role as a military hospital. The review group includes representatives from the Department of Defence, the Northern Area Health Board and the Mater Hospital. It will address any legal and insurance issues which arise in relation to the use of St. Bricin's Hospital for civilian patients.
