Vol. 531 No. 4

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Pat Rabbitte

Question:

101 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for Health and Children the investigation which has been held into reports that three women miscarried while waiting to be admitted to gynaecological ward of St. Luke's Hospital in Kilkenny; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5975/01]

The provision of medical services to eligible persons in counties Carlow and Kilkenny is the statutory responsibility of the South Eastern Health Board in the first instance. I have made inquiries of the board and I understand that it is continuing its inquiries into the circumstances of the three individual cases concerned. In the meantime, the bed manager's role in the hospital has been further strengthened to ensure that similar situations do not recur in the future.
