Vol. 532 No. 2

Written Answers. - Taxi Licensing.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

159 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will enter into negotiations with State, local government and other agencies concerning the creation of a one stop shop for those applying for or renewing taxi licences; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7058/01]

I have indicated that it is intended to consult extensively with representatives of consumer groups, of disabled persons, of taxi service providers and others to develop quality improvements for taxi services in the medium term. These may include, if appropriate, consideration of a further streamlining of the existing legislative and regulatory procedures applying to taxi licensing and renewal of taxi licences.
