Vol. 532 No. 2

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Austin Currie

Question:

184 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of patrol cars available on a nightly basis to service Lucan, Clondalkin, Rathcoole, Saggart, Newcastle and Brittas in County Dublin. [7154/01]

The Garda, which is responsible for the detailed allocation of resources and personnel to individual areas, state that the number of Garda vehicles attached to the above mentioned districts including marked and unmarked vehicles is as follows:

District

Number of Vehicles

Lucan

8

Clondalkin

8

Rathcoole

2

Tallaght

20

Saggart and Newcastle are covered by Rathcoole station, assisted by Lucan, Clondalkin and Tallaght stations. Brittas is covered by gardaí from Tallaght Station and Rathcoole station. The allocation of vehicles to these Districts is comparable to Districts with similar size population throughout the country. For operational reasons it is not possible to state how many vehicles are available on a nightly basis.
