Vol. 532 No. 3

Written Answers. - FÁS Training Programmes.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

82 Mr. Durkan asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the degree to which she has provided adequate funding to facilitate the ongoing needs of FÁS with particular reference to training and instruction; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [7305/01]

The FÁS budget for 2001, final details of which will be published shortly in the Book of Estimates, will amount to almost £650 million, including European funding. This represents an increase of 17% on the year 2000 Estimate.

In the current labour market in which there has been a dramatic increase in the numbers at work and substantial falls in unemployment, I am satisfied that the funding of FÁS activities, including those related to training, is adequate to support the ongoing needs of FÁS in the delivery of its labour market measures.
