Question:

156 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the total catch by species, landed by the fishing fleet in the past 12 months; if this represents an increase or decrease on previous years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7737/01]

The following table sets out the total catch by species landed by the fishing fleet for the years 1997 to 1999 the latest year for which final figures are available has been forwarded to the Deputy. Landings in respect of 1998 are slightly up on the other two years. This is due mainly to an increase in the pelagic sector.

The following table sets out the total catch landed by EU vessels into Ireland for the years 1997 to 1999, the latest year for which final figures are available has been forwarded to the Deputy. Landings in respect of 1998 are up on the other two years. This is due mainly to an increase in blue whiting in the pelagic sector.
