Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

Question:

164 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the number of countries from whence Ireland imports fish; the amount of imports by species; if these imports are processed or unprocessed; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7745/01]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 163 and 164 together.

Ireland is a net exporter of fisheries products and exports outweigh imports both in quantity and value terms. I am arranging for a comprehensive report by BIM on both exports and imports of fishery products, covering the period 1995-99, to be forwarded to the Deputy. The report also details export and import trends up to October 2000.
