Vol. 532 No. 4

Written Answers. - Computer Hacking.

Denis Naughten

Question:

174 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if his Department's computer system or website has been hacked or if an attempt to hack it has occurred in the past three years; if so, when such an incident took place; the measures which have been put in place to protect against hacking; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8183/01]

My Department is aware of the risks posed to our computer systems and website by hackers and has put in place security technologies designed to protect the Department's networks from intrusion attempts.

There are no recorded attempts to hack into the Department's networks or website. A combination of all traffic being routed through the Government intranet, together with firewall technology, minimises the risk of this occurring.
