Vol. 532 No. 4

Written Answers. - Computer Security.

Denis Naughten

Question:

202 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if her Department's computer system or web site has been hacked or if an attempt to hack it has occurred in the past three years; if so, when such an incident took place; the measures which have been put in place to protect against hacking; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [8185/01]

As far as my Department is aware, there have not been any attempts by hackers to breach its internal computer systems in the past three years. The Department has in place a wide ranging security policy and industry best practice computer security systems to protect its computer network from unauthorised access.

The Department's website is hosted on the central government web site i.e. www.irlgov.ie. The security of this site is administered by the Centre for Management and Organisation Development of the Department of Finance and is, therefore, a matter for that Department.
