Vol. 532 No. 4

Written Answers. - Defence Forces Property.

Seán Power

Question:

203 Mr. Power asked the Minister for Defence the number of people who are holders of sheep rights for the Curragh, County Kildare; the regulations that apply to these people; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7398/01]

There are in excess of 140 owners of the 6,013 sheep grazing rights which may be exercised on the Curragh. Most owners do not use the rights themselves but rent them to the twenty or so sheep owners who graze flocks on the Curragh. Regulations governing the grazing of sheep are contained in the Curragh of Kildare Acts, 1961 and 1969 and the Curragh Bye-Laws, 1964.
