Vol. 532 No. 4

Written Answers. - Hospital Waiting Lists.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

330 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Health and Children when a person (details supplied) in County Kildare will be called for surgery; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7572/01]

I understand the person referred to by the Deputy is on the waiting list for a heart and lung transplant at Harefield Hospital in the UK, under the referral of patients abroad scheme.

The referral of patients abroad scheme is administered, in this case, by the Eastern Regional Health Authority, which is responsible for the provision of health services to persons living in counties Dublin, Kildare and Wicklow, and I have asked the regional chief executive of the authority to investigate the case referred to by the Deputy and to reply to him directly.

Breeda Moynihan-Cronin

Question:

331 Mrs. B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Minister for Health and Children when a person (details supplied) in County Kerry will have an appointment with a consultant surgeon at Tralee General Hospital; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7593/01]

The Deputy will appreciate that the scheduling of hospital appointments is a matter for the relevant hospital concerned based upon clinical priority.

I have, therefore, asked the chief executive officer at the Southern Health Board, which has responsibility for the provision of hospital services in the case to which the Deputy is referring, to look into the matter and reply directly to the Deputy as a matter of urgency.
