Vol. 532 No. 4

Written Answers. - Local Authority Funding.

Olivia Mitchell

Question:

446 Ms O. Mitchell asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if, in deciding the level of the annual block grant funding each year for local authorities, account is taken of the level of rates income available to each authority. [8151/01]

The local Government fund general purpose allocations for 2001 which I made to authorities comprised two elements: an across-the-board amount equal to 12.5% of authorities' final allocations for 2000 and an amount calculated through the recently developed computer based needs and resources model. In calculating allocations, the model had regard to a number of factors including each authority's potential income from rates.
