Vol. 532 No. 4

Written Answers. - Museum Projects.

Bernard Allen

Question:

496 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands when a decision will be made on the business plan and application for ACCESS funding by Cork Corporation for the development of the Cork public museum. [7966/01]

An application for capital grant assistance under ACCESS – arts and culture capital support enhancement scheme – was submitted to me by the body referred to by the Deputy. The Deputy will be aware that I have secured a total of £36 million of Exchequer funding for the ACCESS programme for the period 2001-04. An initial assessment of all applications has been completed by independent consultants and it has been determined that the project in question has met the broad criteria for eligibility. This project and all other eligible applications are currently undergoing a comprehensive evaluation by my assessment committee and, on this basis, recommendations on the projects to be supported will be submitted to me for decision shortly.
