Question:

522 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of refugees by category and gender, and the number of child refugees, in County Louth; their location on a geographical basis; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7601/01]

The directorate for asylum support services was established in November 1999 under the aegis of my Department with responsibility, inter alia, for meeting the accommodation needs of asylum seekers.

The directorate is currently providing direct provision accommodation for 44 females and 27 children at the following three centres in County Louth:
