Funding for the tourism sector is primarily carried out by Bord Fáilte and Shannon Development under a number of different programmes. Apart from some direct funding by Bord Fáilte and Shannon Development, the main funding schemes in operation in 1997-1999 were under the Operational Programme for Tourism, 1994-1999 where the funding was allocated by independent management boards set up under the programme. Details of grants, projects and schemes, including the annual reports of the management boards, can be obtained directly from the two agencies. For the period 2000-2006, funding for tourism product development under the southern and eastern region operational programme of the NDP will be administered by Bord Fáilte. Details of the scheme will be launched shortly.
Funding under sub-programme 2 of the Operational Programme for Local Urban and Rural Development 1994-1999 was allocated by Area Development Management Ltd (ADM) to 38 area based partnership companies and 33 community groups to support a plan of action developed with the local community and support agencies in disadvantaged areas. For the period 2000-2006, funding will be provided through the same agency for the southern and eastern region operational programme, and the Border, midlands and western regional operational programme. Funding under the social inclusion measures of the National Development Plan 2000-2006 will also be directed at activities carried out by the area based partnership companies and ADM supported community groups.
There are two area based partnership companies in Kerry – South Kerry Development Partnership, Valentia Road, Caherciveen and Partnership Trá Lí, 37 Ashe Street, Tralee – and three ADM funded community groups – Kerry Rural Development, Castleisland, Ciarraí Thuaidh le Chéile Teo, Listowel and Meitheal Forbartha na Gaeltachta Teo, Baile an Fheirtearaigh, Trá Lí. Details of funding provided to projects can be sourced from these companies.
