Vol. 532 No. 4

Written Answers. - School Equipment.

Michael Creed

Question:

607 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Education and Science the efforts he has made to equip all post-primary schools where woodwork is available as a course subject, to install adequate dust extraction systems, particularly in the context of medium density fibre board which is widely used as a classroom material. [7533/01]

My Department commissioned a pilot study in a number of post-primary schools to establish, by means of scientific evaluation, the effectiveness of both a centralised dust extraction system and an integral extraction system in woodwork rooms. I will issue a circular to all post-primary schools shortly outlining the findings of this study and advising educational authorities how to proceed in this matter in the future.
