Vol. 532 No. 4

Written Answers. - School Equipment.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

631 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education and Science when a person (details supplied) in County Waterford will receive her new computer; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7719/01]

My Department operates a scheme for the provision of grants for schools towards the purchase of equipment for the use of pupils with certain disabilities or communication difficulties. Computer equipment and software are items that may be provided. Under the terms of the scheme the school authorities make an application in respect of an individual pupil.

My Department approved a grant for the purchase of computer equipment for the use of the pupil in question in 1999. A further application for additional equipment was submitted recently. This is being considered by my Department with a view to ensuring that the equipment approved will be appropriate to the needs of the pupil. My Department will complete this process without delay.
