Vol. 532 No. 4

Written Answers. - Schools Refurbishment.

Austin Currie

Question:

675 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Education and Science the reasons for the delay in refurbishing St. Ann's and St. Thomas' national schools, Esker, Lucan, County Dublin; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8111/01]

The provision of temporary accommodation has been completed at St. Anne's and St. Thomas' national schools, Esker, Lucan, County Dublin.

Tenders for roof repair works at the schools are currently being evaluated by the school's design team. In addition, an accommodation brief for the proposed extension is currently being finalised.

The Deputy will appreciate that the allocation of funding to capital projects by my Department depends on factors such as the volume of applications on hand, rate of progress of architectural design, the granting of planning permission and the outcome of the tender competition. Delays can arise at any point in the process, consequently it is not possible to say when projects being processed at present will proceed to construction.

The school authorities will be kept informed of developments.
