Question:

687 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will investigate the problems in a school (details supplied) in County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8203/01]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 686 and 687 together.

I am pleased to inform the Deputy that under the Government's action plan to support pupils with special needs my Department has recently sanctioned a full-time special needs assistant post and ten hours per week resource teacher support for the school in question to cater for pupils with special needs attending the school.

I understand that the principal of the school has been asked to provide my Department with details of any overcrowding difficulties being experienced by it. As soon as the precise difficulties have been identified, the matter will be considered by my Department and any necessary action will be taken.
