Question:

65 Mr. McDowell asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if she has satisfied herself that the recent reductions in excise duty and VAT have been passed on to the consumer; the steps she will take to ensure compliance; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [4684/01]

As I indicated to the House earlier this month, there is no legal obligation to pass on VAT reductions to consumers. However, my colleague the Minister for Finance indicated in his Budget Statement that he would monitor the situation.
