Vol. 532 No. 4

Written Answers. - Motor Insurance Advisory Board.

Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

91 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment when the Motor Insurance Advisory Board began its examination of the high cost of insurance for young drivers; and when its report is expected. [7012/01]

I re-established the Motor Insurance Advisory Board in September of 1998 with a view to establishing a mechanism for systematically monitoring developments in motor insurance costs and for providing meaningful analysis and evaluation of the factors influencing changes in motor insurance premium rates and related matters. The board has been given a very broad remit to examine and provide recommendations on the cost, availability and methods of delivery of motor insurance in the State. I am satisfied with the good work done by the Motor Insurance Advisory Board to date and a final report is expected by the end of the year.
