Vol. 533 No. 1

Written Answers. - Flood Relief.

Jack Wall

Question:

118 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the position regarding applications from persons (details supplied) in south Kildare for grants to repair damage to property which was caused by flooding in 2001. [8362/01]

There are no funds available to me to provide grants for individuals to repair damage to properties caused by flooding. In terms of repairing long-term damage to housing, there are a number of targeted options currently available to assist vulnerable groups, such as lower income households and elderly persons, to secure necessary improvements works to their houses. These include the local authority house improvement loan scheme, the essential repairs grants scheme, the improvement works in lieu of local authority housing scheme and the task force on special housing aid for the elderly. The resources for these schemes have been substantially increased in recent years. They are operated in the Kildare area by Kildare County Council and the Eastern Regional Health Authority's South Western Health Board.
