Vol. 533 No. 1

Written Answers. - Natural Heritage Areas.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

125 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands if her Department is concerned about the quarrying which is proceeding in the Esker Woodland in Clonmacnoise, County Offaly; and the action her Department can take to protect this woodland. [8331/01]

While I have no reports of quarrying activity in the Esker Woodland in Clonmacnoise, I have instructed Dúchas, the heritage service of my Department, to investigate and report on the matter, including any implications for nature conservation in the area. In this regard, any additional information which can be provided on threats to the Esker Woodland in the area, and their precise location, would be of assistance.
