Vol. 533 No. 1

Written Answers. - Fisheries Development.

Cecilia Keaveney

Question:

39 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the projects being considered in his Department for developments in Inishowen, County Donegal; the status of these projects; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7833/01]

I announced recently that, as part of my Department's coast protection programme for 2001, funding is being made available to Donegal County Council for rock armour works at Drung, Quigley's Point. I announced last year that support will be provided for a major development programme at Greencastle Harbour. A preliminary report on the proposed development is expected shortly from consultants engaged by my Department. This report will, together with the results of the site investigation currently under way, critically inform decisions on the development of the harbour.

A major extension to the National Fisheries College at Greencastle has recently been completed by BIM. The enhanced facilities will underpin the provision of top quality training for the Irish seafood industry. Delivery to Greencastle of a further vessel grant-aided under the whitefish fleet renewal scheme is also expected in the near future.
