Vol. 533 No. 4

Written Answers. - Schools Refurbishment.

John Ellis

Question:

181 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for Education and Science the position with regard to the renovation of Cornogee national school, Downa, County Leitrim. [9137/01]

The board of management of Cornagee national school, County Leitrim, has recently been authorised to appoint a design team to commence architectural planning for refurbishment and ancillary accommodation at the school.

It is not possible to say at this point when con struction will commence as the rate of progress to construction of building projects depends on factors such as the complexity and size of the project, the time required to undertake architectural planning, the volume of other projects being dealt with by the design team and my Department's building unit, the period of time required for the granting of planning permission and obtaining a fire certificate, the availability of funding, the outcome of the tender competition and the procurement, where relevant, of bonds, insurance and tax clearance by prospective contractors.
The school authorities will be kept informed of developments.
