Vol. 533 No. 4

Written Answers. - Substance Misuse Prevention.

Jack Wall

Question:

183 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Education and Science the funding his Department has spent over the past five years for advertising or information documentation for use in educational institutions to protect pupils from drug abuse; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9227/01]

Substance misuse prevention programmes are in operation in both primary and second level schools and were developed by my Department in consultation with the partners in education and other relevant interests.

A total of £2,400,000 has been provided by my Department for these programmes since 1996. The funding has been used for the provision of training for teachers, the printing of booklets and the provision of other materials. While these figures would include a small amount of expenditure on advertisement and promotion, the amount is not readily identifiable as a separate figure.
