Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21, and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Sheehan – the issue of the payment for the provision of emergency services for ambulance drivers in the Southern Health Board; (2) Deputy Ring – the need to sanction funding for the extension to St. Colmcille's national school, Westport, County Mayo; (3) Deputy Creed – the reply to Parliamentary Question No. 817 of 30 January 2001, which highlights the inadequate level of funding received by Cork County Council; (4) Deputy Seán Ryan – the situation with regard to the orthodontic service within the Eastern Regional Health Authority area; (5) Deputy Broughan – the need to give the necessary powers to the Comptroller and Auditor General to examine all aspects of the privatisation of telecommunications infrastructure in Ireland, including the award of the second and third mobile phone licences, and to request and enable him to report fully to Dáil Éireann on this matter; (6) Deputy Fitzgerald – the issues raised by the study by the British Food Standards Agency in relation to the extent of BSE infection in Irish cattle, and the reports that the Department of Agriculture, Food and Rural Development is investigating the importation in recent weeks of bovine spinal cord in a cargo of beef imported to Northern Ireland; (7) Deputy Ó Caoláin – the need for the Government to take further measures to deal with the widespread effects of the foot and mouth crisis, including assistance for those in the agricultural and tourism sectors; (8) Deputy Sargent – the issue of the inadequate construction of crash barriers on our roads and the fact that Ireland is in contravention of EU standard EN 1317 in this regard; (9) Deputy Keaveney – the removal of Garda resources from the busy Border village of Lifford at a time when Border security and surveillance are most pressing and urgent; (10) Deputy Neville – the report of the internal inquiry by the Mid-Western Health Board group into the loss of blood and other samples which belonged to a family (details supplied); (11) Deputy Coveney – the need to extend supports to satellite towns outside Cork city under the local drugs task force action plan; (12) Deputy Owen – the accommodation given to 54 Filipino nurses who came to Ireland to work in our health sector; (13) Deputy Durkan – the need for the Minister for the Environment and Local Government to declare a housing emergency.

The matters raised by Deputies Ring, Broughan, Sheehan and Durkan have been selected for discussion.
