Vol. 533 No. 4

Written Answers. - Light Rail Project.

Tony Gregory

Question:

76 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the position regarding the agreement to provide alternative local housing to residents of Arran Quay Terrace, Dublin 7 arising from the Luas compulsory purchase order; and if compensation for major disruption will be offered to residents (details supplied) on the side of Arran Quay Terrace which is not to be demolished. [9180/01]

A condition of the light railway order that I made for the Tallaght to Abbey Street light rail line was that, prior to the demolition or occupation of certain of the properties on Arran Quay Terrace, CIE should submit to me proposals for the redevelopment of the terrace. Such redevelopment should include details of any agreements with the residents and details of the relocation of any residents within the area.

I understand that negotiations are well advanced with the residents for whom CIE is obliged, under the light railway order, to provide alternative accommodation. CIE are confident that they will be in a position to submit detailed proposals to me shortly.

As regards residents on the side of Arran Quay Terrace not to be demolished, the findings of the public inquiry were that the eventual outcome will not be negative in terms of living accommodation.

While these residents will be subjected to some inconvenience during the course of construction, there is no specific provision for compensation for them. I understand that CIE is making every effort to minimise any disruption or inconvenience to the residents in question. Discussions are being held with these residents in relation to how this can best be achieved.

Question No. 77 answered with Question No. 27.
