Vol. 533 No. 5

Written Answers. - Use of Fertilisers.

Ivor Callely

Question:

45 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the level of inspection necessary to prevent misuse of fertilisers in crop production; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7864/01]

The primary responsibility for the proper use of fertilisers in crop production lies with producers themselves. All responsible farmers comply with the code of good farming practice which lays down requirements as regards the timing and application of fertilisers. Adherence to the code is now obligatory on all farmers participating in the various schemes under the regional operational programmes.
