Vol. 533 No. 5

Written Answers. - Foot and Mouth Disease.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

86 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the extent to which he has concluded his investigations into the recent outbreak of foot and mouth disease in County Louth, with particular reference to identification of the source; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9406/01]

Intensive investigations by both the Garda and my Department have not yet arrived at firm conclusions in relation to the cause of the foot and mouth disease, FMD, outbreak in County Louth. Investigations are continuing, although it is only realistic to acknowledge the possibility that we might never reach the point of definitively identifying the source of this particular outbreak.
