Vol. 533 No. 6

Written Answers. - Regional Airports.

Austin Deasy

Question:

140 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if she will provide the relevant moneys under the national development fund for regional airports to enable the Waterford Airport board extend the runway to cater for turbo prop aircraft carrying a maximum load of up to 50 passengers. [9683/01]

As the Deputy will be aware, a sum of £11 million – 1999 prices – was allocated under the national development plan to assist with necessary infrastructural upgrades and improvements in essential facilities at the six regional airports. Within the next couple of weeks, my Department will be inviting the regional airport authorities to submit their project proposals for support under this scheme. Guidelines to assist the airports in making their submissions in this regard are being finalised.
