Question:

151 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Defence the number of beds in the Curragh Military Hospital, County Kildare; the number used in each month over the past 12 months; the number of nursing staff in the hospital; the number of doctors in the hospital; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9443/01]

The military authorities advise that following the reorganisation of the Defence Forces, effective from 1 November 1998, the Curragh Military Hospital was redesigned as a military medical facility. A 30 bed infirmary facility is maintained in this facility.

The number of patient bed days per month over the past 12 months at the facility is as follows: April 2000 – 95; May 2000 – 45; June 2000 – 52; July 2000 – 112; August 2000 – 48; September 2000 – 112; October 2000 – 168; November 2000 – 55; December 2000 – 28; January 2001 – 147; February 2001 – 40; March 2001 – 26. There are ten members of the Army Nursing Service, one temporary nurse and three medical officers employed at the facility.
