Vol. 533 No. 6

Written Answers. - Departmental Agencies.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

157 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Defence if he will list every State agency, company, board, group, committee, commission, inquiry or authority which was set up under the aegis of his Department; and if he will give a brief outline of the aims of each such body. [9921/01]

Other than routine departmental committees which are established on an ongoing basis, the following bodies have been set up under the aegis of my Department since 1997.

An interdepartmental defence and security environment assessment group was established to ensure the Government is kept up to date on the implications for defence and the Defence Forces of developments in the defence and security environment. The group has representatives from the civil and military branches of my Department and from the Departments of Foreign Affairs, Finance and Justice, Equality and Law Reform, and the Garda Síochána.

The Naval and Air Services consultation group provides a forum for the input of the key stakeholders in relation to air and sea services provided, respectively, by the Naval Service and Air Corps. The group, which is chaired by me, has representatives from the civil and military branches of my Department, the Department of the Marine and Natural Resources, the Department of the Taoiseach and the Department of Finance.

Arising from the report of the air accident investigation unit of the Department of Public Enterprise into the accident at Tramore in 1999, a working group, comprising representatives from both the civilian and military branches of my Department and from the Department of the Marine and Natural Resources, was established to monitor progress in regard to the implementation of the safety recommendations set out in the report.
Arising from the Partnership 2000 Agreement for Inclusion, Employment and Competitiveness, a number of partnership committees have been established.
