Vol. 533 No. 6

Written Answers. - Garda Stations.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

206 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Finance the extent to which negotiations for the acquisition of a site or premises for a Garda station at Leixlip, County Kildare have been concluded; the final and agreed location for the station; the number of vendors approached in regard to this issue; if final offers have been made or accepted; the extent to which the planning of the station in question has been advanced with a view to the provision of this facility at the earliest possible date; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10034/01]

The negotiations for the acquisition of a site or premises for a Garda station at Leixlip, County Kildare have not been concluded. The process of identifying a suitable site at an acceptable price is proving extremely difficult. At least 11 sites have been considered to date. Some of these were considered unsuitable, but discussions were held with four potential vendors. Discussions are ongoing with two potential vendors but there are substantial obstacles to be overcome before either site could be purchased.
