Vol. 533 No. 6

Written Answers. - Drug Treatment Services.

Liam Aylward

Question:

272 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Health and Children the progress to date on the request for additional funding for a centre (details supplied) in County Kilkenny. [10009/01]

The provision of drug treatment services is the statutory responsibility of the health boards. I have been informed by the South Eastern Health Board that it is in discussion with the centre referred to by the Deputy regarding the provision of revenue funding for 2001. It is expected that these discussions will be finalised in the coming weeks.

I also understand that in the course of these discussions, which include the question of independent evaluation of the centre's services, the question was raised of the centre's application for a capital grant of an additional £150,000 towards initial cost of refurbishment of the centre. My Department has already clarified with the centre that a once off capital grant of £150,000 was provided in 1998 with no undertaking to provide further capital funding.
