Vol. 533 No. 6

Written Answers. - Hepatitis B Programme.

Bernard Allen

Question:

283 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children if he proposes to introduce a Hepatitis B passport for all hospital health care workers, including doctors. [10020/01]

It is a matter for health agencies to satisfy themselves as to the health status of staff. Ongoing discussions are taking place between the Health Service Employers Agency and the Irish Medical Organisation with regard to the introduction of screening protocols for blood-borne diseases for non-consultant hospital doctors. All nurses employed in the public health service are offered vaccination against hepatitis B on a voluntary basis.
