Question:318 Ms O. Mitchell asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if the production of tax clearance certificates is required on the renewal of drivers' PSV licences. [9860/01]

I am advised that the introduction of a requirement to produce a tax clearance certificate for the grant or renewal of a public services vehicle drivers licence would require legislation.
Arising from the introduction of the new taxi licensing regime, I have indicated that it is intended to consult extensively with representatives of consumer groups, of disabled persons, of taxi service providers and others, to develop further quality improvements over the medium term for taxi services for the benefit of both the service providers and the general public. The issue of tax clearance certification may arise to be considered in the context of this consultation process.
