Breeda Moynihan-Cronin

408 Mrs. B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he will ensure that funding is made available from the national lottery sports and recreational fund to Dr. Crokes GAA club, Killarney, County Kerry; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9810/01]

The sports capital programme for 2001 was advertised in mid December 2000 with a closing date of 9 February 2001 for the receipt of completed applications. In excess of 1,450 applications were received, including one from the organisation in question. All applications will be evaluated against the programme's assessment criteria, which are outlined in the guidelines which accompanied the application form. I intend to announce the grant allocations for the programme as soon as possible after the assessment process has been completed.

Seán Haughey

Question:

410 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the reason an application from a football club (details supplied) in Dublin 9 for lottery funding under the sports capital programme 2000 was refused; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9874/01]

In excess of 1,600 applications were received for the 2000 sports capital pro gramme. All of the applications, including one from the organisation in question, were assessed in accordance with detailed assessment criteria outlined in the guidelines, terms and conditions governing the programme, which had been issued to applicants prior to completing their applications.

The total score attained by the organisation in question across the assessment criteria was not sufficient to qualify for a grant. This decision, together with a copy of the assessment conducted on the application, which included the score attained for each of the individual assessment criteria, was conveyed by the sports unit of my Department to the organisation in a letter dated 17 July 2000.
