Vol. 533 No. 6

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Michael Creed

Question:

433 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Education and Science the steps he will take to provide remedial and resource teachers to a number of schools in the Beara peninsula who have had their service interrupted. [9543/01]

The Deputy is referring to an interruption which has taken place in the visiting teacher service for the area in question. This arose due to the illness of the visiting teacher involved in serving the area.

My Department advertised for a temporary substitute visiting teacher in the national press on Thursday, 22 March, Friday, 23 March and Sunday, 25 March 2001 in an effort to secure a suitable teacher to provide this service to the pupils concerned. The closing date for receipt of applications is Friday, 6 April 2001.

I hope a suitable candidate will be identified so that the service in question can be resumed as speedily as possible.
