Vol. 533 No. 6

Written Answers. - Departmental Agencies.

Enda Kenny

Question:

457 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Education and Science the name, remit, budget and responsibility, including its headquarters and staff, of any organisation or agency under the aegis of his Department involved in any type of development in the BMW region; the monitoring process involved by his Department in respect of such development; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9806/01]

I understand the Deputy's question refers to the operation of organisations and agencies to promote economic and social development in the BMW region. In this context the Deputy will be aware that education services are delivered throughout the country, through the schools system, the further and higher education institutions and education centres. In so far as the BMW region is concerned, the vocational education committees have a specific educational remit.

In addition, the education sector participates in the area based partnerships structure and in the work of the BMW regional assemblies and the EU operational sub-committees of the regional authorities.

As regards the specific information requested by the Deputy in relation to the remit, budget and responsibility of each organisation or agency involved in the BMW region, given the scale of the activities involved, it would require an inordinate amount of official time to answer the question in the detail requested. However, if the Deputy has any queries regarding a specific organisation or agency, I will be happy to forward the information to him.
